Adrift at the universe's edge
Your ship is broken and adrift, floating near the anomaly you were sent to examine. It feels like there is something unnatural here. Alien? Divine? infernal? Or is it all just in your mind? Maybe it's just the madness slowly overtaking you as you hover, hopeless at the end of the universe. You and the surviving crewmembers have already tried everything, but maybe one more exercise in futility can't hurt. It sure beats sitting on the bridge, just staring off into the void.
