Sitting by an alien ocean alone.

I sit at the gleaming grey shore of a sea of inky liquid. The sky smolders with a hazy opalescence reflecting off the obsidian ripples. A sea. I automatically assign a familiar term to it– but I'm on another planet, so it deserves a different weight. I am on another planet. Trying to fill the gap between my familiar earthly experience and this shimmering alien world. My feelings constantly meshing between discomfort with the unfamiliar, the alien, and awe of the beauty of it all.
