Alvaet Forest Bio-Starship
Log Start
It’s been about 57 hours since our Starship, the USS Adiona, was raided by bandits and left for dead with no FTL or Impulse control. We sent out a broadwide SOS and started tending to our wounded. We got lucky, no fatalities. It took almost a whole day before someone heard our SOS, and another day for them to get to us. At that point, we were venting oxygen and our emergency power was almost up. Another day, and we wouldn’t have made it.
It took a while for us to understand our saviors, because we had to wait until the universal translator come back online. Even then, it had trouble with the complexity of their sounds. They call themselves Alvaets, and seem to be some kind of human sized, anthropomorphic bird people. There language is mostly a tremolo of coos, with various pitches.
The Alvaets have a ship like I’ve never seen. I’m not sure if it even can be called a ship. It’s shape is odd, a kind of roughly spherical structure, but it’s what the ship is made out of that really amazes me. All the ships I’ve ever been on have been made of solid tritanium and duranium. But this ship? It’s made of PLANTS. The outer hull is just a bundle of roots, that are somehow airtight. And the inside is just as awe inspiring. Instead of having different floors and rooms, this ship has a forest inside. An entire forest. It even has wildlife! And to top it all off, they spin the whole thing in order to have artificial gravity.
I was lucky enough to be a part of the away team to greet(and thank)the Alvaets face to face. We met in a small clearing near where they had docked our ship. I can hear the usual sounds of a starship, like the engine rumbling or the dull roar of traveling through subspace, but I can also hear the sounds of the forest. There are other Alvaets in the area, none that I can see, but I can hear their warbling calls to each other. Sometimes a few of the Alvaets talking to us will use the massive wings they have to fly away for a moment and get something, or find someone to answer a certain question. I swear I hear the ship itself creaking, but when I asked they said it was just the ship GROWING. Like it was a normal occurrence! I guess for them it is.
The Captain is probably going to call me over soon, so I guess I should end the log entry here. The Alvaets seem like nice people, and I’m glad they got to us before any scavengers did. Hopefully they’ll let us stay in their uh, Bio-ship long enough for us to complete repairs on the USS Adiona.
