Europa War
It's been hours since we've heard anything. The comms rig has been quiet, but there's no mistaking the sounds outside. Just over the endless howl of the -260F wind, we can just make out the sounds of the infantry mechs throwing up a last doomed defense against...whatever it is that's coming. Every so often a sudden deep boom punctuates the small arms fire. I don't hear it so much as feel it through the floor. From what I know about our planetside armory, that's not us. And I think they're getting closer.
Brass has ordered all nonessentials into orbit. I've already heard the first few shuttles rumble past to the dust off point. Just as soon as I wake the beacon AI to take over comms, I'm suiting up and meeting the next one.
I can't help but feel we should have heeded that first warning before attempting a landing here.
